Profil # PH12066 – Booklet in German and English

Despite a tumultuous career, Carlos Kleiber captured success in this recording when he teamed up with Günter Roth in a new production based on the original plan mapped out by Austrian director Renato Mordo. Kleiber’s exacting qualities and demanding tempos made for a fine recipe of Germanic transition that the audience savored.

In this triptych we find three of Offenbach’s one act operettas that provide a colorful pastiche of absurdities well accentuated with dramatic tone by all involved. There is a weighted proportion of verbal dialogue (especially in Die Insel Tulipatan) which the audience lavishes. These comedies are highly slapstick and fitting within the opéra-bouffe genre.

Aficionados who relish the days of a bygone era will delight in this Profil collection. One will find the three casts are fittingly charged and energized in order to bring Offenbach’s scores to riotous delight. Undoubtedly, Offenbach’s fecund library of works filter into a handful of oft performed works which places more importance on these three witty pieces...it’s like finding needle in a haystack: a pleasant and rollicking stroll down memory lane.
